Subject: Preview of coming attractions
This show sets the tone for the upcoming mountain west and fall tours. The band was wicked tight and Phil had become very high in the mix due to his new love, not just Jill ;), the six string bass.

First set has the below mentioned Cassidy which is a great way to start a show. You get a "common" for this period Big RR Blues > Let It Grow to close out the set which is very nice.

Set two is full steam ahead with no looking back. The band is on high octane and delivers many high powered moments. Samson is ripping and the China> Rider is excellent and then you get a over the top PITB.
D/S are very good and you get a nice Wheel, and it is clear Jerry wanted to do something else after it. I hear a slight China Doll tease and then a more clearly Terrapin one. Now that would have made this show legendary.

It ends very strong with a nice double encore full of Phil bombs all over the place.
Listener beware. :)

Subject: Yes, this is my doing. :)
Yep, I recorded this show. Used Mike's deck because mine was in the shop. Mike was not here for these shows, it was a few others of us who used his apartment as a crash pad... :) I believe I took the masters with me, made copies, and then mailed them back to Mike due to as it was on his deck, good to keep it with it's parent. :)

Subject: The Wheel
This fun show became memorably unique for me during The Wheel. I was twirling up a narrow ramp, holding the chain link fence to keep from falling, hand over hand as I turned, with people behind following behind me, and people coming at me. There was a stream of people crossing the ramp in both directions. After a few revolutions I became aware that everyone else was doing the same thing, turning hand over hand, in effect like cogs in a wheel, individually rotating, but also moving as two larger circles. It was incredible and the dawning looks of awe on everyones faces as we collectively realized what was happening were priceless. I remember thinking I sure hope the band can see this now. My most cosmic communal experience ever at a Dead show.

Subject: Rango
Rango was not at these shows, his brother in law taped them with his gear.

Credit given.

A Rango recording. We don't know for sure. I have the tapes but its his handwriting on the masters. Credit where credit's due. Doesn't matter - same equipment, same sonic experience.

This song alone is worth the price of admission.
Jerry goes completely crazy.

This recording is so up front and in your face that it is impossible to listen to unless played at maximum possible volume.

You are right there. You are right there.

One of the greatest Grateful Dead performances ever heard. A full 50 out of five star rating.

incredible separation... what can one say?
